Each year throughout the months of November and December, the world famous Harrods department store transforms into an exciting winter wonderland with a different theme running throughout. Last year saw the glamorous ‘Crystal Christmas’ theme as Swarovski crystals gave customers and tourists alike a sparkly shopping experience, Peter Pan and his companions took over in 2010. All things Wizard of Oz adorned the store in Christmas 2009, complete with a 12-foot version of the Wicked Witch of the West’s legs and feet poking out the side of the building – it is clear to see that Harrods certainly do not do Christmas in half measures.
This festive season, Harrods has chosen to bring a touch of magic to its store as it celebrates a Disney Christmas. Complete with a pop-up boutique, fantastic in-store events and a playful Disney café, the theme has already proved to be a hit with families. Within the fabulous boutique, there is a Disney castle with turrets and roses which houses the Cinderella Slipper Salon where little girls can try on – and purchase – their very own glitter-embellished shoes. It really is every girl’s little dream, both myself and Vee were hoping there would be an adult version complete with our very own Prince Charming!
Sadly this wasn’t the case but that didn’t stop us from having a brilliant time. The young girls were gasping at the wonderful fancy dress outfits and life-size Disney Princess figures and the young boys were jumping for joy at the Cars and Toy Story section. There is also a Mickey Activity Zone where children could sit and do some colouring and drawing or watch the Disney television.
It is a great place for families this Christmas because the excitement of merely being in the fun-filled environment is enough to please people of all ages. Although a note to parents – do not enter the Disney pop-up store if you find it hard to say ‘no’ to your children, there are ample gifts, fancy dress outfits and Disney-themed toys and accessories, it will be impossible to walk away empty handed!
